The 600 m2 permanent exhibition, which started in 2011, is located in a building on the school campus across from the elementary school, in which classes have been held again since 1946.
The “Goldfish” room focuses on the work of approx. 5,000 prisoners of the camps Neckarelz I, Neckarez II, Neckargerach, Asbach, Neckarbischofsheim and Bad Rappenau. The men developed the gypsum mine Obrigheim into a subterranean factory for Daimler aircraft engines and erected lodging facilities for the workers. Two rooms describe the hard camp life, but also particularities of the “KZ in the elementary school”. Next to it, one can get to know prisoners from all over Europe and their stories.
The room “Natzweiler am Neckar” deals with the relocation of the command post of the main camp to Guttenbach/Neckar.
The exhibition invites to independent discovery. The pedagogic programme extends from a classic guided tour up to a multi-hour project day. The freely accessible “Goldfish” history teaching path, which is 3 km away, connects aboveground remains of the underground factory
